For the first in class assignment today, we folded the paper in 2 parts, horizontally n had to draw half of a van gough's masterpiece upside down in just 20 minutes and the other half in 10 minutes as it had less details. i was quite happy at first when i saw the second half of the the picture as it had less details but then because of that our lecturers decided to cut down our intial 20 minutes to 10 minutes.
Then we had to fold a new piece of paper into 4 quarters, a horizontal fold and a vertical fold and we had to draw upside down quarter by quarter.
These drawings were actually designed to train us use our right brain more as we are more familiar with things the right way up. i was quite happy as my first one was quite close in fitting when the paper was opened up but my second one wasnt as close especially the bottom half of his profile but it was quite an interesting assignment which somehow reminded me of that spot the difference machine which can be found in arcades.
For the next half of the day, we were introduced to the director of school of design and he introduced us to orthography. We were suppose to hold our pencils in a drawing position and be so close to the paper that all we can see is what we are drawing at that moment and just draw without thinking. When we were told to go and draw the first questioned that was raised up was "draw what?" which i think was the question on alot of our minds but we were not to draw anything pre concieved but without thinking.
haha and this was a bit of what happened :
We learnt that this was a good way to come up with original ideas and were also taught that we should take great amount of care of our work.
